I have to admit, I am a OneNote junkie. Yes, I use OneNote to organize everything. Why do I love OneNote so much? What I love about OneNote is the ability to gather many types of files and links in one place.
For example, in my notebook “Family History & Photo Notes, ” I gather memorabilia by year. I have a “Section” (think section of a notebook) for each year. As you can see, a table is used to add dates and notes, PDF documents, links to other pages or to a folder on the network and even a picture. I can link to a page within OneNote or a folder on the network. This helps me track all the items that may be stored in different locations about a single event.
Of course, I fear that Microsoft will stop supporting OneNote as I know it. But that’s another topic. You can choose another software product that works for you. I have known people who have created their own Access database to store their extensive genealogy information.
Of course, there are on-line services to collection genealogy information. I have not taken that path – yet. It is an interesting idea. But one requirement for me, is a way to backup up or copy the information and documents off to my own computer to be totally comfortable with it. I have seen far too many products lose support over the years.
