Since we lost our son, James, I have attended grief groups, conferences, read many articles and participated in Facebook group discussions. Even though we are in our sixth year, I still find it difficult to read long articles; and have read very few books. I simply cannot concentrate.
When our son’s fiancée cleared the home they shared, so she could move forward; she brought tubs of his “stuff” back to us. In some ways, that was extremely sad to me…it felt like she didn’t want these memories anymore. Many families have had similar experiences.
At first it felt like she was closing the door on his life. In reality, I came to the conclusion that this was a blessing. For example, I had the opportunity to preserve these memories for our grandchildren…and for her. I scanned a photo book, for example, and saved it to my permanent storage that they will always have access to these memories.
